"Would you like to come inside?" You asked gently pulling back from the hug, and offered him a warm smile.

He quickly pulled his hands back to his side, trying to compose himself from just holding you as if you would be the last person he'd ever get to- or the last time he would get to. Because somewhere deep down, he was afraid that would be true.

Looking at you, he nodded slightly, just barely moving enough for you to notice. "If you'll have me.." He offered a strangled smile.

Closing your eyes, you let out a few silently chuckles, causing his heart to skip. Your eyes opened back up and the moment they peered into his, he could see everything...

"Of course, Kaku."

... The pain, the happiness, your confusion probably on why he was back, but something struck him- there was no lingering anger. Not an ounce laid within your look. And that confused him dearly.

Stepping to the side, you stretched out your arm allowing him to pass through the door. Cautiously entering, his eyes darted around, taking in every detail around him; nothing had changed. Inhaling deeply, something seemed to unwind in the pit of his stomach and for a split-second, he felt safe once more. He felt at home.

Feeling a small tap on his shoulder, his head turned and he looked behind him, seeing you standing there. Something about all of this felt so surreal and he wondered.. if he were to reach out and touch you, would you slip through his fingers like mist? Or would he fell your warm skin against his own?

He was to afraid to find out.

"Do you want something to drink? Anything to eat?" Your gentle voice floated in his ears, invading his mind.

"Some tea would be nice.." And with those words, you nodded and made your way towards the kitchen.. and his eyes followed your every step until you disappeared behind the wall.

Standing still for a few minutes, he just looked around once more at everything, wondering how much the same it all still was. Taking a few steps forward into the living room, he noticed a few things had changed; the furniture had been moved around, a few more picture frames had been placed up- but the ones of you and him had not been taken down.

Walking over, a ghost of a smile crept its way onto his lips as he looked over the old photos, all those times replying in his head.

But something in him froze when he landed on one particular photo. His hand slowly reached out, knuckled brushing against the glass before his hand gripped the frame, bringing the photo to his face and getting a closer look.

Oh my, God.

He had been so into whatever scenarios his mind taunted him with right now, he didn't notice you walk out of the kitchen carrying two cups of tea. Not until your voice called out his name, "Kaku?"

Silence.

"The tea is-"

"You didn't tell me.." Closing his eyes, he took in a deep breath awaiting your response, but all he received was a quiet shaky breath. Opening up his eyes, he peered down at the picture, his knuckles turning white as he gripped it too hard. "Why, didn't you tell me?"

"I was going to.." He heard your sharp intake. "But, that night, you told me that you didn't love me.. I didn't see a reason to.."

His eyes burned and his heart felt as though it were caught in a wild fire with your next words..

"I wasn't going to force you into something you did not want.."

Everything- everything he ever wanted- ever dreamed of having, was melting between his fingers, like the freshly fallen snow on a new born winters day..

His thumb traced over the two figures in the picture and applying a bit to much pressure, the glass cracked- as did he. "You think it was easy..?"

"What..? Pretending to love someone all those years?"

He couldn't hold it back anymore, he couldn't continue his lie- even if you would not accept him now... He was going to set things straight!

But how could he..?

"Leaving you.." He whispered just enough for you to hear.

"What-"

Being the coward he felt he was, he set down the picture and turned on his heel, making his way towards the door. But just as he started to pull it open, a small hand reached up and slammed it shut with a reassuring sound.

Looking up, he met your broken gaze and his wanted to break down. You hands flew out and he felt them on his chest as you ruthlessly shoved him up against a wall. "No! You left me once... a-and.. You're not leaving me again until y-you tell me what the hell is going on!" You continuously shoved your finger into his chest, trying to stress your words.

Looking down at the floor in shame, his hat shadowed his eyes. How could he look at you? He didn't deserve it. "You think it was easy leaving you? Lying to you?" And if he pictured hard enough, he could almost see the confusion written on your face, even if he wasn't looking at you. "You think it was easy telling you I didn't love you!? Leaving behind everything I ever wanted!?" His jaw clenched together as he looked up, meeting your gaze straight on and he could see the tears pouring down your cheeks, dripping down onto the carpet.

He saw your fists clench and your shoulder square up as you started to yell at him, "You sure as hell made it look that way!" Your eyes clenched shut and your head tilted down towards the floor. "You made it look so easy.. like it didn't even matter to you anymore.. like.. you really didn't love me.."

"Mommy?"

Your head turned in the direction of the small, worried voice and he couldn't bare himself to look up. But somehow he found the courage to. Lifting his head just enough, his shadowed eyes shown enough in the light for the small being to see and when his eyes met the spitting-image of his own, the smaller ones widened, before looking over at you.

"I heard shouts.."

"No honey, it's okay, just go ahead and go play.."

After a few seconds, the little boy nodded his head and cautiously left the room.

It was all here, waiting for him to come back.. he just had to make all this right.

Looking back up at you, you had your arms wrapped around you and your gaze down. "I told you that and left you like that, because I was trying to protect you.." Your head snapped back up at his voice, seeming to scan all over his face, searching for any sign of a lie. But he knew, you could tell, there were none.. "I love you, more then you'll ever know.. Now, there's a million reasons I can think of for you to make me leave, but if you can find a reason- out of what I did, to let me stay.. I'll do whatever it takes to turn this around, I know what's at stake and I know that I let you down... I'll keep us together, whatever it takes.."
